Removing a Studio Proper Car Mount
Depending on how well the adhesive from your Studio Proper Car Mount has attached to the windscreen, you may find difficulty in removing it from your car. Our products are designed to be strong and long lasting, and this can make it tricky if you have upgraded your car and want to move from one to the other.
OPTION 1
Equipment Required:
- Dental floss / picture hanging wire
- Methylated spirits
- Clean rag / lint free cloth
Step 1
Wrap dental floss around your fingers to create a tight-rope between your hands. Using a slow sawing motion, run the floss across the adhesive between the frame and the window. Once you have separated the product from your windscreen, try to roll away any remaining adhesive with your fingers. If the adhesive does not come away, try using a plastic scraper (not metal as you might scratch your windscreen). You are able to use methylated spirits on a clean cloth to dissolve the remaining adhesive and residue until your window is clean.
OPTION 2
Technical Information: The adhesive used on the product becomes less strong with heat. Also, aluminium (the material used throughout the product) is a good conductor of heat. This means that as you follow the steps below, there is a risk of injury due to the use of heat. Please take all safety precautions to prevent injury.
Equipment Required:
- Hair dryer
- Tea towel / oven mit
- Methylated spirits
- Clean rag / lint free cloth
Step 1
Using a hair dryer on it's highest temperature, heat the frame and adhesive area of the car mount for around 3 minutes from inside the car cabin. At this point the metal parts of the product will be very hot and can cause burning.
Step 2
Using your tea towel or oven mit to protect your hand from the high temperature of the car mount metal, hold the Car Mount by the frame and very slowly twist in a clock-wise or anti clock-wise direction (depending on your location). You should see the adhesive has become pliable and weak. If the frame does not move, continue to add heat to the frame using the hair dryer and repeat the process.
Step 3
Once you've twisted off your car mount, there may be some residue left behind on the screen. Ensure your car is in a well ventilated area with windows down or all doors open. Using your rag / lint free cloth, soak a small amount in Methylated spirits and hold against the residue for a few moments. Softly rub and wear away any residue using the rag until the surface is clean.
